History: The Antland Band started back in 1970 when Michael Marusevich, Tony Cardo, and Bob Boyle worked as chefs at The International House of Pancakes in Commack, NY. Walter Mahoney and Roy Yokelson were working as bus boys there as well. Rehearsals were usually held in the basement of Walter Mahoney’s home, and eventually in the basement on Soundview Lane in Huntington. Most recordings were produced in the basement of Roy Yokelson’s home.

Their first live ”gig” was at The First Presbyterian Church on Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown, NY, followed by a near snowed out dance at Christ The King Church on Indian Head Road in Commack. There were also annual “Live At Dix Hills Park” concerts, of which one was blacked out with no power (first use of “unplugged”). A benefit concert was also performed at Suffolk State School (for handicapped children), where Big Don sang “Southern Man” like no one else ever could (thank God, and may Don rest in peace). Other venues included: Cork ‘N Board (wine and cheese), The Emporium, and recurring shows at The Bourbon Barrel (bar on Rt 110 in Huntington, NY). There were also pre-recorded and live radio shows aired on WHPC 90.3 FM Stereo (“The Voice of Nassau Community College”) – 4 shows on “Words Worth” (including one Christmas show) featuring Bill Williams, as well as a featured live band on “The Uncle Anti Extravaganza” one Saturday afternoon (Roy Yokelson assuming the role of “Uncle Anti”).

Numerous recordings were made: “Tony Cardo – The Early Recordings – Volume 1 & 2”, “The Antland Band’s First Concert”, “The Antland Band – Live at Christ The King”, “Miles & Time – Volumes 1, 2, and 3”, “The Antland Band – Live at Suffolk State School” (tape presumed lost in a flood in Bloomfield, NJ), “Live At Dix Hills” (numerous years, including “Where Were You When The Lights Went Out?”), “The Antland Band’s Official Demo Recordings”, for which Roy received a “gold album” created by spray painting a Readers Digest album gold, and by Peter Cartwright (label artwork), Kevin Shady and Mike Marusevich (wood working and spray painting), and Jill Shady (macramé hanger), “The Bozo Band – Garage Recordings”,  “The Antland Band – Electric Blackmail Tapes”. Additionally, many comedy albums were written and recorded: “Uncle Anti’s Department Store”, “Da Draft”, “This Is Your Life: Rex Rectum”, “The David Lost Show”, “W. S. H. I. TV – (709.382 on your dial)”, “Antland’s Comedy Masters – Volume 1”, “The Jill Shady Blackmail Tapes” (never released), and spin off’s like “The Ann Mauro Suite” (sung to The Beatles White Album), “Mrs. Fahey’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band” (sung to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band), and “Let It Be” ...featuring Roy Yokelson and John Adams on vocals, performed and recorded mostly in the style of Alvin & The Chipmunks.

Songs that were written and recorded during this time include: “Jamindee” (MM), “The Trip” (MM), “Happiness Is” (MM), “For An Aries” (MM), “(I’m) Free” (MM), “ISS” (MM), “Welcome To My Field (MM/TC), “Be Yourself” (TC), “Billy” (TC),  “Sweet M’Lady Blue” (TC), and “Space Truckin’” (KS).

Years later, Tony Cardo and Roy got together to produce: “Melody”*, “Oh, Bethany”, and “Please”.

Rocky Magistro was also involved in various comedy recordings including: 709.382 and “I Saw Mommy Liggin’ Santa Claus”. Rocky’s nightmares are: “Jamindee”, which he associates with The Legendary Stardust Cowboy’s rendition of “Paralyzed” (used as background music for “Uncle Anti’s Disco”), and Peter Cartwright’s cat, who used to pee in Rocky’s plants.

Roadies included: Roy Yokelson, Michael Marusevich, Tony Cardo, Bob Boyle, Walter Mahoney, Don Walsh, and Big Don DeRuso,

* Tony Cardo adds:

 1.) The song “Melody” we recorded in 1983. Of the approx. 30 songs I have written (so far) it is still my favorite.

2.) While "Melody" is my favorite, "Billy" is the most fun, dedicated to college kids around the world, and now it is complete, having restored the long-missing chorus (Re-recorded in 2008).
